TextDrive/Joyent is incredibly flexible when it comes to shared hosting. They'll happily let you run just about anything, including Ruby on Rails. You even get shell access. But watch out when it comes to support issues. On occasion I've had support tickets go unsolved for more than a month, and that's just not acceptable. Nice people, and incredibly knowledgeable, and they used to be top notch, but right now, they're way too oversold, and they don't have enough staff to handle the volume.
