Mass Exodus at IPowerWeb

Fri, 15th June 2007, 05:23

It seems as though there's something grand going down at IPowerWeb. Earlier today their systems apparently suffered about 10 hours of downtime as their primary DNS systems went dark. This outage comes tightly on the heels of the recent Washington Post announcement that over 35% of IPowerWeb's systems have been the target of a massive exploitation.

Shortly prior to this event there was a lengthy amount of downtime (Some users stating up to 16 days!) for a number of users of their system. There's no precise numbers available of how much of their clientbase was effected but things aren't looking too swell.

Several users have commented on a recent HostJury blog entry making statements like, "Support has vanished". Another chimes in with "Goodbye ipowerweb.", shortly after detailing her experience about her sudden loss of all of six years worth of e-mail folders & address books.

And trends on sites like IPWalk show that they're not alone. From May 29th until June 5th IPowerWeb had lost more than a thousand domain names from it's hosting service. With today's events coming hot on the heels of recent problems I suspect even more would have made the exit earlier today.

Since December of 06 IPowerWeb has lost a total of 41 thousand domain names. Grim wouldn't be the word I'd utilize to describe it. At least things are looking up for some at the IPowerWeb camp. Rumors have it that the company was sold for a XX million amount recently and someone's Daddy is getting a new pair of shoes!

The latest scheme by Ipower is to call and harass people. Yeah don't give them your credit card and don't register your domain through them. There are many other domain hosts that are better to go with. Ipower, Startlogic and many other names they go by should be avoided at all costs. These companies are all fronts of Endurance. This is the web host from HELL'

  2. Seo Says:

Yep, I think eating monkey droppings about sums up what you go through trying to wrestle your domain away from these people! JC! No website, no help, no nice. They even keep your credit card on file! (I thought that was illegal!) I’ve not been with them for over a year, when they grab my domain, become my registered service provider and proceed with the process of a screwjob.

When and if I ever get this thing straightened out I will do everything I can to really screw them! (Which I hope by posting here I am starting.)

A word to the wise…Considering iPowerweb for your webhost? Run far, run fast and don’t look back.

    Beyond angry, beyond frustrated

  3. Wishtoremain Anonymous Says:

DON'T GIVE IPOWER YOUR CREDIT CARD. They tried to bill my credit card for a domain name that had been expired for over a year despite numerous calls to discontinue the account.

  4. Kevin Says:

STAY AWAY FROM IPOWER / STARTLOGIC AT ALL COSTS!! (unless you have plenty of rear-end lubrication and headache medicine - and good spam filters). I also wrote all about my horrid experience with them on my blog at: http://www.kevindeangelis.com/blog/?p=26

I've filed 2 complaints against them ( 1 for ipower and 1 for startlogic).

Oh yeah and they'll promise you a credit, but then they'll close your account so you can't get it!!! They are the biggest scam! DO NOT USE THEM

  5. Bruce H Says:

    This company is HORRIBLE.

No, wait, that's too nice a description....I'm truly at a loss to explain the depths of the poor customer service at this company.

  6. Scammed by iPower Says:

I signed up with iPower becuaswe I had expereinced some problems with Tripod in the past. However iPower turned out to be a bigger mistake that my ex-husband! I tried several times to cancel my account with iPower and the requests were ignored. iPower charged my credit card without my approval, in fact against my cancellation request. I called customer service and was told that my accounts would be cancelled and no further charges would appear on my account. Refunds were not possible for the transactions that were already processed. Next, iPower rushed through 4 other renewals charging my account within hours of my speking to a representative! I spoke to a billing supervisor who told me that cancellation requests in writing are not honored (!), my money would not be refunded and they had the right to process my renewals ahead of the renewal date! No apologies even though she admitted that they cheated me out of my money! I ended up disputing the charges, cancelling my credit card and filing a complaint with the FTC and the State of Md (my residnece). Stay away from iPower they will steal from you, admit it and continue about their business.

After being with IPOWER for less than a year--everything was fine...until last week when they UPGRADED their platform (was it broken?) Now, my website is down or goes to an error page.

Good luck trying to get thru on the phones. If you do get thru to a Tech Support person, they are practically useless. (I've gotten better service at a WalMart!) The Tech email is a joke! They will BLAME the technical issues on everything else, but their Servers or anything from their side.

I'm leaving them and contacting my credit card company to dispute the 2 years of PREPAID services.

  8. Emmett Welch Says:

We are going to have to leave. We were dumb enough to use them for E-mail. They go down every couple months for days. Absolutely no kind of support services work during this period. when the outage is over they are hostile. Very bad host.

  9. Sandra Murray Says:

Unbelievable experience!! I have emailed the CEO, Tom Gorny after a week of disaster! My site was suspended even tho the account was paid in full. They took down my business site, and said you will have to rebuild it. We have moved my account to another hosting company. Still dealing with trying to get my other account up. It's not good!!!

  10. John Calkins Says:

I have an ecommerce site http://hotcookies.net and my site has gone down for thirty -ninety minutes each day for the last ten days. I should have already exodus.

  11. Aris Says:

We are leaving ipower today. We were about to launch our company site and the servers have been down and or slow for the last three days. Ipower support claims nothing is wrong with the site, and it functions fine, and that nothing is wrong with their servers. This while I am watching 5 computers not able to access the site. What an awful company!

    Inside info about ipowerweb

Let me tell you a little something about ipowerweb. I power web is based out of phoenix Arizona. They have 3 companies before the merger with endurance corp. The 3 are ipowerweb, startlogic and dot 5 hosting. All three companies have better business bureau complaints up the Wahoo! Just recently 3 on your side which is a new station in phoenix Arizona went over to the ipower and startlogic head quarters because there was a huge complaint against startlogic web design. You can view the article here http://www.azfamily.com/news/3oys/stories/KTVK3OYS20071210_web-site-Startlogic.2b9cd5d.html. Ipower, startlogic and dot 5 hosting don’t design websites. They out source to a company called design var in California. So if you buy a website lets say at 600 dollars. Ipower, startlogic and dot 5 keep 300 and design var keeps 300.00. So basically your web design is only $300.00 and you paid $600.00 (and it takes 2 years to get your site finished)

They recently started doing website optimization and search engine optimization. They do very basic stuff. All they do is meta tags that’s it. I don’t think you want to spend 2 to 4 thousand just on keywords. Im sure you can Google all kinds of complaints about their seo.

Getting back to endurance international. Endurance international is a company that buys hosting companies that are basically going out of business. They have biz land, powweb, a bunch others and now the lucky 3, ipower, startlogic and dot 5. Im sure endurance didn’t do enough research on the 3 companies. Good luck with that endurance.

Be careful who you choose for internet services because it could result in a loss of money and a pain on your butt. Always look at review sites and research.

  13. Serge P. Says:

The worst company ever!!! Saty away from ipowerweb inc they customer is bad and I will sue them for lost of business and chnage of my services on a prepaid account. BAD COMPANY!!!

  14. Jeff F Says:

    Customer Service - Theres none.

Submit a trouble ticket, grab a seat and wait 3 weeks for reply, not a resolution. Call them, hope you phone is fully charged.

VDeck - Dysfunctional, Up Time, down 6 hours a week, each week.

Have a site go down or just get lost, you're on your own. I had a shared and dedicated hosting plans with them. IPower lost an e-comm website, no assistance, no back up, after 5 days we moved it to GoDaddy.com, followed by myself and all my other clients. Best move I made . Currently a class action suit is being considered, if you've been affected check out this site and send e-mail: http://www.psnwo.com/

  15. Max R. Says:

I have been a customer of IPOWER for many years and the reason that I was staying there was that I used their photogallery, which would be hard to transfer. They have very bad technical support and once in a while some glitches on their servers made the work of my email or website fail. Very bad service.

  16. Mark Robertson Says:

After trying other hosts without issue, I decided to try Ipowerweb. This has been the worst experience I have ever had and my site has been down for 6 days straight now. I have lost $3K as a result. I will be calling my attorney. Horrible Hosting. I hope everyone leaves.

  17. DW Says:

I have to agree with the reasoning to leave Ipower. I was left in the dark when the outage happened during server transition last month and I had clients to answer to. I switched the affected server to Lunarpages and have been happy. Now I am in the middle of switching the rest of my accounts from Ipower to Lunarpages and am quite happy with my decision so far. Ipower could not help me, left me on long holds, told me "they have support working on it" but could not tel me what "it" was support might be working on. I am one very unhappy customer and I am more than motivated to tell anyone that will listen...get out of Ipower while the door still works!
